Southern Tilden votes were thrown out by Grant and his cronies despite the Colorado state legislature having a faux majority, the rampant fraud in the South, and the obstructionism of Congress. Tilden stood up to President Grant and the Republicans punished him for it. This catastrophe could've been averted had we never entangled ourselves into slavery, which in the long term would have ensured a free and fair Tilden victory. It would've also ensured Al Gore his 2000 victory, as minority voters wouldn't have been disenfranchised in Florida. 124 years apart, and nearly the same circumstances.
