I really feel like Doom is the empowering type of media we need in the modern world. It turns these terrifying monsters into something mortal and shows that we, the player, are above the suffering and despite the odds we can always get ahead by subsisting on the defeat of our demons. It seems like most other media wants to wallow in self pity about how bad life is, but Doom shows us that we can make it better and have fun in the process. It turns what should be unimaginable horror into something not only to overcome, but to dominate. I believe that is Doom's message, that it is up to us to seize glory for ourselves using all the skills we possess in the right ways.
